Kempton Park: Tourism, shopping and much more!

Kempton Park is a city located in Ekurhuleni in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. It’s also situated close to one of the country’s largest townships, Tembisa. Established back in 1903, various suburbs make up the area known as modern-day Kempton Park including Birchleigh, Allen Grove, Nimrod Park and others.

Kempton Park is a prime spot for business- and leisure travellers, especially since it’s so easily accessible from OR Tambo International Airport. Numerous conference venues and accommodation options can also be found in Kempton Park, regardless of one’s budget or needs. And since there are also a variety of shopping malls, eateries, movie theatres and more to discover, it’s safe to say that Kempton Park caters for the curious, whether local or visitor.

No visit to Kempton Park (or Johannesburg, for that matter) is complete without a visit to Emperors Palace, the royal casino complex and prime draw card of the area. Located right next to the airport, Emperors Palace offers enjoyment in the form of a health and beauty spa, a spacious casino with unmatched gaming enjoyment, fine dining locations, unforgettable entertainment choices, and much more.

Those who wish to be out and about can try the 18-hole course at Kempton Park Golf Club. Characterised as a typical Parklands golf course, it’s also known as a friendly and easy playing course accompanied by a vast selection of animal- and bird life (which forms the inspiration for the club logo).

Kempton Park: Map for shopping

But getting back to that earlier mention of Kempton Park shopping malls, and first on our discovery list is Glen Balad Mall. Located in the suburb of Glen Marais, this community shopping centre is known, among other things, for its fancy European Piazza-style walkway that announces the centre’s sleek style. Pop by and see what special offers are up for grab at Pick n Pay, PEP Home, Vodacom, and more.

Although nearer to Boksburg, East Rand Mall is still easily accessible for any shopper in Kempton Park. It’s only 7 km from OR Tambo Airport, presents an enticing range of well-known shops and tenants (such as Build a Bear, Cross Trainer, and McDonald's), plus provides a host of smaller specialised stores for those in search of something unique.

Kempton Gate Mall might not be as humongous as some of the other shopping locations in Kempton Park, but rest assured that this Edleen-located centre still offers a great selection of shopping potential. Who knows what discounts and promotions await at The Sweet Point, Wimpy, Cell Tech, and more?

Just north of Kempton Park (and north-east of Johannesburg) is where you’ll find Birch Acres Mall, South Africa’s newest township shopping spot. Over 65 stores are conveniently scattered across its 26,000 m² space, ranging from enticing options like health and beauty, clothing, banks, foods and much more. Expect to find the likes of Edgars, KFC, and Woolworths at Birch Acres Mall. Did we mention there’s a public parking area, plus a large taxi rank, on the mall’s western side to aid in shoppers’ transport?

And over in Esther Park, Festival Mall awaits. It offers high-quality merchandise, entertainment for young and old, plus the only ice rink in Johannesburg East. Drop by for anything from food and fun to fashion and finance at stores like Mr Price Home, Matrix, Relay Jeans, and more.
