The origins of Volpes
Volpes was established in 1929 by Reuben Volpe who had begun the family business specialising in curtains and later adding Volpes linen, bathroom towels and some accessories such as throws. Reuben started the company off with only £100 of which he had borrowed from his uncle on top of that Reuben only had grade 8 as his highest level of education, but excellent entrepreneurship came naturally. In 1948 he married his wife Leonie who assisted with the companys administration. In 1952 Reuben opened his own factory to have more control over the quality of the products and later their son Chuck joined the business during the year 1970. Chucks wife also joined the company in 1990 and in 1999 the company expanded and began a hospitality division. The companys main offices are based in Port Elizabeth and distribute their products throughout South Africa, with stores nationwide.
