The origins of Isuzu

The world's first diesel engine is said to have been developed in 1893 by Rudolf Diesel in Germany, it was only decades later that Japan's first diesel engine was developed by the navy in 1907, at the time the engine was solely used for research, whilst other companies in Japan tried to manufacture a diesel engine for practical use such as automobiles. In 1938, Isuzu's predecessor manufactured the very first air-cooled diesel engine, After Tokyo Automobile Industries was authorised to be the only company to manufacture diesel engine vehicles the company was renamed to Isuzu. Isuzu has grown to become one of the world's leading diesel engine manufacturers. Today there are Isuzu dealerships located throughout the world with several Isuzu branches in South Africa.
