Formerly known as Witbank (which means “white ridge” in Afrikaans), Emalahleni is a city located on the Highveld of Mpumalanga in South Africa. It is within the Emalahleni Local Municipality, hence the changing of the name (which means “place of coal”) in 2006. And this name is certainly no coincidence, for Emalahleni is known as a prime coal-mining spot in South Africa, with over 22 collieries in the municipal radius. Further aiding in Emalahleni’s economy is the surrounding farm lands being purchased by investors, coal-mining companies, plus real estate developers to help boost the city’s rapid growth.
Because many travellers en route from Gauteng to the Kruger National Park pass Emalahleni, you can bet the city and its surroundings have the odd tourist attraction or two. These include hotels, many guest houses (from utilitarian to more deluxe), as well as The Ridge Casino. From casino gaming and exciting promotions to cinema blockbusters and fine dining, there’s something for the whole family at The Ridge.
And did we mention that located right next to The Ridge Casino is Emalahleni’s Highveld Mall?
Easily accessible (right off the N4), Highveld Mall is the one-stop shop option for many Emalahleni locals and/or visitors. That’s thanks to the centre’s incredible floor space (along with Tsogo Sun’s Ridge Casino and Entertainment Resort it encompasses a noteworthy 85,000 m²) and versatile tenant collection (from banking and dining to upgrading and pampering...). Drop by any of the 185+ stores (including Vodashop, Totalsports, and Game) to relish in the latest specials and discounts.
Although not as gigantic as Highveld Mall, Highland Mews still presents an enticing selection of shops scattered across its 17,032 m² floor space. Here in the CBD of Emalahleni, more than 50 stores, along with their individual product specials and promotions, await. Try out well-known brands like Identity, Debonairs, Sterns, and much more.
KG Mall, which opened its doors in 2014, is one of Emalahleni’s newer shopping centres. Conveniently located in Kwa Guqa just west of Emalahleni, the mall’s more than 60 stores are committed to meeting a variety of shoppers’ needs. A commitment that has been honoured thanks to popular stores like Gadget Paradise, Shoprite, and Railway Furnishers.
Don’t forget about Saveways Crescent Centre. With its 55,000 m² layout and over 67 stores, the centre is proud to cater for shoppers’ diverse needs 7 days a week. Expect to find the likes of Clicks, JAM Clothing, and Sheet Street at Saveways Crescent Centre.
Although located a bit farther away in Middelburg, Middelburg Mall is still easily accessible for anybody in or near Emalahleni requiring decent retail therapy. Known as the biggest shopping space under one roof in Middelburg, the mall is loved for its selection of 140+ shops dedicated to choice, quality and service. Who knows what discounts and promotions await you and your shopping bags at Cigar and Vape House, Exact!, Woolworths, and more?
