Rustenburg: Tourism, shopping and much more!
Rustenburg is the most populous city in South Africa’s North West Province. Located at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range, Rustenburg is about a 2-hour drive from Johannesburg. The city enjoys a temperate humid subtropical climate. Typical of the area, summers (when most rainfall occurs) are very warm while winters are rather mild.
As Rustenburg is located on some of South Africa’s major highway routes and close to two major centres, it’s a prime spot for tourism. From magnificent golf courses and theme parks to hot-air ballooning, Rustenburg knows how to entertain young and old. But Sun City has to be the most popular tourist attraction in the area. This luxury resort and casino is less than an hour’s drive from Rustenburg and offers all a rich collection of music concerts, beach parties, water parks, quad biking, movies, restaurants and dance clubs, and much more.
Those who want to get in touch with nature can consider the Kgaswane Nature Reserve. Comprising 5,300 hectares of natural beauty, the reserve is visited by locals and tourists hoping to catch a glimpse of the 800+ species of antelope, the major predators (like jackals and leopards) roaming about, 320 species of birdlife, about 115 types of trees, etc.
And thanks to its prime location, Rustenburg also has an enticing assortment of shopping centres and malls.
Rustenburg: Map for shopping
Anybody in Rustenburg who’s serious about shopping is advised to visit Waterfall Mall. Known as the biggest regional shopping centre in the city, the mall offers a fabulous 50,000 m² spread of upmarket, regional shopping space. And combined with the Value Mart right across the road, Waterfall Mall’s updated floor space reads just over 60,000 m². Drop by and visit any of the 150+ shops including Refinery, Incredible Connection, and Le Creuset.
Next up is the Lifestyle Square, suitably situated in the busy Beyers Naudé that flows straight into Rustenburg’s CBD. Offering an enticing blend of retail therapy and lifestyle services, Lifestyle Square has Pick n Pay as its anchor tenant (making shopping for groceries a breeze), while other shops at the square include PNA, Planet Fitness, and Matrix Warehouse.
Right opposite Lifestyle Square we find the equally enticing Rustenburg Square. Here is where shoppers can flock for additional retail options and lifestyle services, provided via multiple tenants like Steers, Milaneza, Tops at Spar, and more.
Over in Rustenburg’s Upper East Side is where Magalies View awaits. Known as a very modern shopping mall (which is conveniently located between the Rustenburg CBD and Rustenburg East’s residential suburbs), Magalies View is the ideal destination for locals and guests seeking a comprehensive shopping experience. Clicks, Cycle Zone, and Liquor City are just some of the well-known retailers awaiting your presence here.
And over in Cashan there are more product specials and price discounts to enjoy, particularly at Platinum Square. This refreshing, open-air centre is complemented by a charming collection of choices featuring anything from fashion and food to electronics and entertainment. Look out for the likes of Checkers Hyper, Pep Home, and Ms Cellular at Platinum Square.
